This rifle dates to 1950 and has classic Southgate features. It has star patterns around the muzzle, a German silver blade front sight, notch rear sight, "->R. SOUTHGATE<-" hand cut into the top of the barrel, "80" stamped at the breech, brass lock marked "R. Southgate," brass trigger and furniture, a pair of nickel silver diamonds on the wrist, a simple tension closed patch box with carved "side plate" designs, some simple incised carving and engraving, and a down turned nickel silver crescent moon on the cheekpiece.

Rating Definition:

Very good overall with 85% plus of the original brown finish, dark case colors on the lock components, aged patina on the brass and nickel silver, and general minor marks and scratches. Mechanically fine.
