Manufactured by legendary Arizona Master Gunsmith Fred Wells. Wells was perhaps best known for his incredible custom Mauser rifles including but not limited to five rifles built for the Baron of Bavaria, one of which was presented to no less than the King of Sweden! Wells was instrumental in establishing the acclaimed gunsmithing program at Yavapai College, a program that graduates only about 9 people annually. This fantastically artistic Mauser rifle features a ramped blade front and fixed express style notch rear sight with gold inlaid sight line, fine engraving and gold wire inlaid borders around the muzzle, the barrel band, ahead of and behind the rear sight base, finely textured panels on top of the chamber, receiver ring, and bridge, and full coverage fine floral and scroll engraving. The floorplate is semi-relief engraved with the bust of an African lion, with crisp scroll borders and fine gold wire inlay. The trigger guard and grip cap are similarly engraved and inlaid. Mounted on a highly attractive birds eye maple pistol grip stock with fancy fleur de lis bordered checkering, ebony forend tip, dual reinforcing bolts, raised cheekpiece, and a solid rubber recoil pad. The rifle includes a letter of authenticity from the maker Fred Wells dated June 10, 2005 affirming the stock, and caliber. The letter further states the engraving was performed by FEGA Master Engraver Rachel Wells.

Near mint as custom made/embellished. 99% of the deep blue finish remains with sharp, finely detailed engraving complete gold inlays, a few light handling marks, and some small cycling marks on the bolt. The stock is also excellent with very attractive figure, crisp checkering, and a wonderful light honey color. The recoil pad is the only area that shows any appreciable wear with some cracking and chipping at the toe and heel. An absolutely fantastic custom Mauser from a legend in the gunsmithing field, and one of the few modern American gun makers that could say they were a gun maker for a king.
