The First Model 1890 slide action rifle has the distinctive features of concealed locking lugs and solid frame, and they were only manufactured from 1890 to 1892. This exceptional example was manufactured in 1892. The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle in .22 Long caliber when it was received in the warehouse on September 14, 1892, and shipped on October 3, 1892. It has dovetailed blade front and notched rear sights, standard markings including the serial number only on the lower tang as it appeared on a majority of First Models, 12-groove round forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The hammer, frame, trigger guard and buttplate are casehardened, and the remaining surfaces are blue.

Very fine as professionally restored. The barrel, magazine and bolt retain 90% plus blue finish. The remaining surfaces retain 90% case colors. The wood is fine with a tiny missing chip and tiny hairline crack near the upper tang, a repair near the toe and some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. This attractive early Model 1890 will make a great addition to any Winchester slide action collection.
