Rachel Wells Signed Master Engraved Smith & Wesson No. 3 First Model American Revolver with Factory Letter

Manufactured from 1870-72 and later engraved by Firearms Engravers Guild of America member Rachel Wells. The floral scroll pattern on a punch dot background covers roughly 60% of the surface, and is signed "RACHEL WELLS ENGRAVER" on the butt. Serial number on the butt, un-numbered grips, and "C8" on the cylinder, barrel and barrel latch. The accompanying factory letter lists the revolver with an 8 inch barrel and blue finish when it was shipped on March 15, 1871, to M.W. Robinson, New York City (S&W's largest distributor at the time).

ConditionFine as professionally embellished. Overall, the revolver has a bright appearance with some very scattered light pitting. The replacement grips are excellent showing a couple minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
