This is beautiful example of an extremely high end, professionally restored Winchester Model 1886 rifle in the desirable 45-90 WCF caliber. The level of restoration on this rifle is exceptional, beautiful original looking color casehardening with excellent rust blued type metal finish. It is complemented by the deluxe, fancy walnut pistol grip stock and forend, with both being expertly checkered. Although not marked, the rifle appears to be of a Doug Turnbull level of restoration. It comes with a Cody Firearms Museum letter dated April 2011, listing this rifle as 45/90 caliber, octagon barrel, plain trigger, checkered stock with pistol grip, and Lyman rear and hunting front sight. The letter lists this being shipped November 1891. It has an all blued barrel, magazine, forearm cap, receiver and bolt with case hardened hammer, lever, trigger and crescent buttplate. The loading gate is niter blue. Fitted with a deluxe fancy walnut stock and forend with a hand rubbed varnish finish. The top barrel flat is marked in two-lines: "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.", with "45-90"in front of the receiver ring. The two lines 1894 and 1895 patent dates are stamped on the lower tang immediately behind the trigger. Serial number "34576" is stamped on the rear of the tang.
Near mint with 99% of its professionally restored color casehardened and blued metal finishes, showing only very minor handling and cycling marks. The wood components are both very fine with 98% of their hand-rubbed varnish finishes showing some minor light handling marks/pressure dents on the rear end of the forend with a couple minute nicks in the pistol grip checkering. Mechanically excellent. Just a beautiful looking professionally restored Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle.
