Description:

This is an example of a DWM Model 1906 American Eagle Luger pistol. These American Eagle Lugers were made expressly for export to the United States, with this example even more desirable in that has the short 3 7/8 inch fat barrel 9mm configuration instead of the 4 3/4 inch fast taper barrel chambered in 7.65mm Luger caliber. These early DWM Lugers have excellent fit and finish, with beautiful hand polish rust blue metal and straw colored smaller components. The model has the large emblazoned American Eagle Crest on top of the chamber area, short style frame and upper receiver with the extractor marked "LOADED" as intended for the American market with the first model lower safety area that is polished and unmarked. Evidently, this pistol was manufactured early enough in the production cycle that DWM had not started applying the standard "Crown/B,U", and G commercial proofmarks as the barrel and barrel extension are completely unproofed. The front of the frame and underside of the barrel are marked with the full serial number, with the last two digits stamped on the back sides of the various small parts. There are no commercial "Crown N" proofmarks and the front of the frame stamped "GERMANY" below the serial number. The pistol is fitted with a set of checkered walnut grips and it is complete with a correct nickel-plated magazine with the wooden base, marked "Cal 9 M/M" in script. The front sight has had a non-factory white bead applied and the sight slot has been modified to match the width of the bead. It is complete with an unmarked early (possibly American made) brown leather holster with a single belt loop on the back side.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% of the original blue finish overall with extremely minor high spot wear with slight oxidation on the grip straps. Straw colors remain 60% intact. The grips are also excellent with sharp checking on both sides. Mechanically excellent. The holster is very fine with a pliable feel to the leather with tight stitching with minor age cracking on top of the flap.
