Description:

This is a very fine example of a DWM Model 1908 German Navy Luger pistol, with an original non-matching number Navy issue wooden base magazine. These were the standard pre-WWI Navy Luger issued to the Imperial German Navy all the way through WWI and even into the Weimar era. This series of Lugers are identified as they don't have a grip safety and usually have the second model safety markings. The chamber area is undated and the front toggle has the standard "DWM" logo. The left side of the barrel extension has the "double Crown/M" proofmarks with the smaller Imperial "Crown" firing proof, the latter being repeated on the left rear section of the barrel and the "Crown/M" proof also stamped on the underside of the barrel. It is numbered in the military manner with the full serial number (1552) stamped on the major parts with the last two digits (52) correctly stamped on the various small parts. As noted the magazine that accompanies this pistol is an original Navy version that has the nickel-plated body with the wooden bases that has the concentric circles on the ends. The base is marked with a single "Crown/M" Navy proof and numbered "454", longitudinally on the base. At some point this Luger was intended to be exported out of Germany as the middle, underside of the barrel is marked in larger letters "GERMANY".

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% original blue finish with light wear and on the edges and high spots with thinning on the muzzle. The various small parts retain 60% of their fading straw colors, mostly on the edges of the parts. The grips are very fine with nice distinct checkering on both sides, with some minor handling marks and one small flat spot on the upper, front edge of the right grip. Mechanically excellent.
