Description:

This is an example of a 1915 dated WWI German Artillery Luger rig, that is complete with the renumbered matching serial numbered artillery board stock, and three matching magazines with a 1915 dated leather holster and double magazine pouch. The top of the barrel extension is dated 1915 for the year of manufacture and the toggle is marked "DWM", for Deutsches Waffen Und Munitions, the factory that produced this pistol. The right side of the barrel extension has the three, Crown over Script letter proofs next to the Imperial eagle proof, with the Imperial eagle proof also on the right rear side of the barrel and left side of the breechblock. The main parts; barrel extension, underside of the barrel and front of the frame all carry the restamped full serial number (873) with the various small parts numbered with the last two digits of the serial number. It is marked ''GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" on the safety and extractor, respectively. It has the original tangent rear sight with the inverted "V" front blade. As noted the three magazines that accompany this lot all have the nickel-plated magazine body with the wooden base that has been restamped with corresponding serial number, "873a". It is complete with a wooden board shoulder stock which has had the attaching iron professionally re-numbered "873a" on top to match the pistol. It is complete with an original brown leather holster that is marked on the lower front flap area; "FLATOW & PRIEMER/ BERLIN 1915", with the inside of the flap, ink stamped; with three illegible letters/1914 inside a box/FdLS. The holster is complete with the reproduction leather boot that covers the attaching iron, the shoulder straps, and a leather double magazine pouch that is stamped on the inside of the flap; "ERNEST & HELEMUND/DRESDEN/1915" over a boxed "LZA" stamp.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally restored/(see above), with 97% of the rust blue finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear with some minor blue loss on the muzzle, side plate and stock lug areas. The grips are also in excellent condition with nice sharp checkering overall with only a couple of minor blemishes on each side. The various small parts retain 75% of their straw colors. The stock is in excellent condition with only minor handling marks and light pressure dents on the side from actual field use with 98% of the refinished blue finish remaining on the professionally re-numbered attaching iron. The leather holster is in excellent condition with a nice light brown color overall with nice tight stitching and sharp distinct markings. The shoulder straps and double magazine pouch are all in very fine condition overall, also with nice tight stitching and a dark brown color. Although the barrel on this specific pistol matching the frame, as noted above the front upper edge of the barrel extension does not have the flat milled rear sight notch, so this is a replacement barrel that has been professionally restored and renumbered to match. This is still an exceptionally nice representative example of a WWI Artillery luger rig.
