Description:

This is a excellent example of a very rare 1936 Mauser contract P.08 Luger as produced for the country of Iran (formerly Persia prior to 1935) government. These rare commercial contract Lugers were produced concurrent with the Mauser Banners Luges, that are identical except these have all Farsi markings. There were two contracts for this model of Luger: one was in 1936 and the second contract was in 1942, with 1,000 pistols ordered in each contract that consist of both 4 inch and 8 inch (artillery type) Luger pistols. These are an extremely difficult Luger to obtain as very few have ever been released by the Iranian government. The chamber area is marked with the National Coat of Arms for Iran exactly like those on the Mauser Model 49 rifles and carbines. The left side of the barrel extension and front end of the front sight base, both have a small Mauser "Crown/U" proof mark. The right side of the barrel extension has a small Iranian "Crown" type acceptance proof. The front toggle has a long Persian/Farsi inscription (which may translate to Mauser), and all the pistol markings, (safety, extractor, serial number etc.) are all in Farsi. The serial number has been translated to (2836), so it was probably produced at the end of the first contract in 1936/1937 time frame. Each part is correctly stamped with the last two digits (36) in Farsi to include both original magazines. The grips are unnumbered. The holster itself appears to be locally produced and designed to be used as a drop-down type holster or maybe as a shoulder holster. The two loops are sewn on the top back edge. There is no traditional flap and instead there is only a small single tab to secure the pistol in the holster. There are no proof or maker marks on the holster. It is complete with two original Persian/Iranian contract nickel plated magazines with the aluminum bases. Both bases are numbered "36" in Farsi with a small single proof or letter at the lower edge.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% of the blue finish overall with only edge and high spot wear on the muzzle, side plate hump and front edges of the frame rails. The smaller parts retain 95% of their original straw colors overall. The grips are also in excellent condition with distinct checkering overall. An exceptionally nice high condition Persian contract Luger rig.
