Description:

This is an early WWII Remington M1903A4 sniper as manufactured by Remington Arms that was subsequently overhauled at Rock Island Arsenal. Original manufactured circa 1943, the barrel is marked "R.A./flaming bomb/8-43" and the receiver is marked in two blocks "U.S./REMINGTON/MODEL 03-A3" on the left side and the serial number (3421249) on the right. It is also fitted with the correct WWII stamped parts set to include the barrel bands and early small bow trigger guard and it has the correct 1903A4 sniper rifle bolt bent low with the "R" mark on the underside of the bolt handle. The receiver has a parkerized Redfield marked scope base which has been fitted with a blue M84 rifle scope with parkerized scope rings. The scope has a rubber eyecup and sliding sheet metal sun shield. The scope itself is a correct GI version marked "TELESCOPE/M84/SERIAL NO. 45223". The rifle is fitted with a late scant grip walnut stock and handguard. The stock is stamped on the left side with a faint "RA/Ordnance Cannon/FJA" cartouche and which has now been stamped with an additional boxed "RIA/EB" between the stock bolts with a second "RIA/EB" cartouche on the lower left side of the buttstock. There is a double circled "P" proof in the pistol grip area. It comes with a green canvas sling. Provenance: Bruce Canfield collection.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall as arsenal refurbished with 98% of a light gray parkerized finish overall on all the metal parts. The stock and handguard are both in fine condition as arsenal refurbished with a nice dark brown oil stained finish with visible cartouches and proofs as noted above with only minor handling marks in some areas. The scope retains 95% of its blued finish with only edge and high spot wear with clear optics.
