The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with an octagon barrel in .45-60 caliber (no mention of length!), plain trigger, casehardened receiver and checkered pistol grip stock when it was received in warehouse on June 3, 1885, and shipped on October 5, 1886. It has dovetailed blade front, folding ladder rear and tang peep sights, third model integral dust cover guide rail and cover with grasping grooves and a replacement extra long 28 inch barrel, which is marked with the two-line address/patent dates ahead of the rear sight and "CAL 45-60" at the breech. The brass cartridge elevator is marked "45-60." The stock has an ebony pistol grip insert and a crescent buttplate with trapdoor (cleaning rod not included). The left side of the lower tang is marked "1882 XX," and the stock inlet is marked "P 1882."

Good as rebarreled. The rifle has a mottled gray patina with some minor pitting. The rechecked, refinished forearm is a replacement. The refinished buttstock is very good with some minor handling marks and some wear in the checkering. Mechanically excellent.
