Description:

Measuring 9 inches when opened, this pocketknife is equipped with a single edged spear point blade, 4 inches long, with a lockback spine and "G. CROOKES/&Co/SHEFFIELD" on the left ricasso. The grip panels are smooth antique ivory with a blank inscription plate on the left, with an engraved and repoussed German silver floral pattern on the guard and a motif of a horse head, anchor, and cannon on the pommel. A similarly furnished Crookes pocket knife can be seen on page 395 of Flayderman's "The Bowie Knife".

Rating Definition:

Fair. The blade shows a mixed gray patina, with spotting and wear. A small chip is absent from the left grip panel, with a fine aged color and grain to the grips, and the German silver components show some minor scuffs and dents.
