Description:

2,500 of these carbines were manufactured by Greene Rifle Works to fill Warner's second contract. They were delivered in February and March of 1865 near the end of the Civil War. Warner carbines are known to have been issued to the 3rd Massachusetts and 1st Wisconsin Cavalry and most (nearly 2,500 possibly including some of the 1,501 first contract carbines) were later sold through a New York dealer to the French government for use in the Franco-Prussian War. It has a blade front sight, two leaf rear sight (peeps and notches for 300, 500, and 800 yards on the folding leaf), three-line Greene address and patent marking on the left under the saddle ring bar, and smooth stock and forearm.

Rating Definition:

Very good with attractive aged patina and minor marks on the brass, mottled gray and brown patina and mild pitting/oxidation on the iron, mild scratches and dents on the re-oiled stock, and a chip on the right and two stabilized cracks in the upper corners of the wrist at the junction with the back of the frame. Mechanically fine.
