5,000 of these carbines were manufactured by Savage Revolving Arms Co. for Remington to fill U.S. Government contracts late in the Civil War. Remington subsequently repurchased 3,600 of them and sold them to the French for use during the Franco-Prussian War. It has the standard markings and features.
Very good with traces of original finish and otherwise gray and brown patina, minor oxidation, some dings and marks, and mild edge wear. The wood is very good and has smooth re-oiled finish, slight chipping at the buttplate tang and forearm edges, and minor handling and storage type marks. Mechanically excellent.
