Description:

An estimated 20,000 of these revolvers were manufactured in 1861 and 1862, and more than half were purchased by the U.S. government. (Nearly all of these saw extensive usage, whereas this exceptional example somehow miraculously survived in as issued condition!) Though called a Navy based on the .36 caliber, these revolvers were primarily issued to cavalry units, including the 1st Wisconsin, 2nd Wisconsin, 5th Kansas, and 7th New York Cavalry. Some Confederate cavalry units are also known to have used this model. It has the standard markings and features, including small "T" sub-inspection marks and crisp "JT" and "WAT" cartouches on the matching grips.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus, as issued overall with 98% original bright high polish blue finish and 98% vivid plus original case colors, some minor fading primarily on the sides of the frame, a semi-circular scratch above the trigger on the frame and grip, light edge wear, generally crisp markings, and a slight chip on the lower edge of the left grip panel. Mechanically excellent. It appears virtually unfired. This is quite possibly of the finest Civil War Martially Inspected Savage Navy revolver extant.
