Description:

With blacked barrel signed "GEORGE GIBBS. BRISTOL & 35. SAVILLE ROW. LONDON. W." and engraved "FOR/GIBBS/.505/CARTRIDGE/ONLY" in front of the receiver. Block mounted sights comprising a bead front sight with hinged tunnel cover and rear sight of one fixed and two folding leaves graduated to 300 yards and each with platinum inlaid center line. The blacked magnum receiver is signed "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF A/N" on the side wall, bears the Mauser serial number "53458" for circa 1912 and is fitted with a Canjar trigger. The bolt has a turned down handle and a checkered flag safety with gold inlaid "SAFE". Blacked trigger guard and magazine floor plate, and casehardened pistolgrip cap with hinged trap cover. Figured 14 3/4 inch pistol grip stock including 1 inch leather covered recoil pad, with checkered grip and forearm. The underside of the butt has a vacant silver escutcheon and rear sling eye. Weight: 10 lbs. 13 oz., London nitro proof marks for 80 grs Cordite and 600 grs bullet and 90 grs Cordite and 525 grs bullet.

Rating Definition:

Professionally restored and excellent. Metal showing very minimal collector type handling marks overall. Mechanically needs adjustment. Provenance: William J. Feldstein Collection, purchased from Jan Schallig in 1985, Robert M. Lee Collection.
