Description:

These FitzGerald Specials were hide away guns with short barrels, cut away trigger guards and cut away (bobbed) hammer. A limited number of this model was made in the New Service, Bankers and Detective Specials and other D.A. models. Fitzgerald was a noted firearms and balistics expert, author, lecturer, and perhaps one of the most flamboyant and innovative Colt employees of the 20th century. The first documented Fitz New Service was in the 332000 serial number range, and this revolver being only about 3,000 after that. The revolver features a short factory unmarked barrel with a clipped round blade front sight, and frame notch rear sight. The ejector rod is correctly clipped short, and the forward portion of the trigger guard is cut away to allow easy access to the checkered trigger. The Colt "VP" verified proof is on the right rear of the trigger guard which is correct for the Fitzgerald special models, and the hammer spur has been factory bobbed. In addition to the barrel, trigger guard, and hammer alterations, the butt has been rounded. Fitted with checkered Colt medallion grips. Includes a hardwood display case for both the "A" and "B" guns with a red velvet interior.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine. 90% plus original blue finish remains with some mild edge wear, small scratches and dings, and a visible cylinder drag line. The grips are fine with mild to moderate wear on the checkering, and small dings. Mechanically excellent. Case is good with some dings and scuffs on the exterior, and visible hairline crack on the lid. A solid representative example of a rare Colt New Service variation.

The rear right of the trigger guard is correctly stamped with the Colt "VP" verified proof. The trigger guard has had the forward portion removed to allow easy access, and the hammer has been bobbed. In addition to the hammer and trigger modifications, the butt has been rounded. Fitted with checkered grips with Colt medallions.

Excellent. 98% original blue finish remains with some scattered small nicks and scratches, light cylinder drag line, and mild handling marks. The grips are very fine with sharp checkering and numerous small dings. Mechanically excellent.
