This is a WWII production Japanese type 97 sniper rifle that was manufactured by the Nagoya Arsenal. The side of the receiver is marked with the Nagoya Arsenal symbol over the series "1" mark followed by the serial number "7943". The receiver retains the Chrysanthemum intact over the various Kana characters for type 97. The side of the receiver is fitted a scope base that is fitted with a correct early pattern smaller 2.5x sniper scope and its canvas scope case and shoulder strap. The scope is marked "2.5 X 10," over the manufacturers symbol over No. 10773, with the side of the mount being serial numbered "11993". The rifle has an original matching numbered sniper bolt and matching cocking knob, however the firing pin is stuck in the bolt and will not cock. It has a matching front barrel band with the lower band unnumbered but with the monopod block and bipod. It has the long staff rear sight without anti-aircraft wings, graduated, 4-22 (400-2200 meters) and no drain holes in front of the trigger guard. Has an original WWII stock with cupped sheet metal buttplate and handguard. It comes with dust cover numbered "946" (gun "943" last three digits), an original cleaning rod and brass muzzle cover.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine overall with 90% plus of the original blue finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear with slight blue loss on the front edge of the floor plate and exposed areas of the receiver. The stock is in very fine condition with a nice original color on the stock with a slightly darker handguard showing minor handling marks and light pressure dents, gouges overall from use and handling over the years. The scope retains 90% plus of its black painted finish showing some minor spotting and thinning overall with clear markings. The optics are clear with a good intact reticle pattern.
