Springfield Armory Model 1903 National Match Bolt Action Rifle with Research Letter

This example was manufactured in late 1924 with the barrel marked "S A/flaming bomb/4-25" just behind the standard front sight and not sold until 1927. The muzzle is stamped with a star, and the star gauge number "D/2046" is stamped under the handguard. The bolt is stamped "W 3 L" on top of the bolt handle, has a headless cocking piece and is electro-penciled with the last five digits of the serial number "66751" on top of the bolt body. Mounted on a replacement C-type smooth walnut pistol grip stock with two reinforcing bolts, the drawing number stamped in front of the rear sling swivel "D1836-4" and a checkered steel buttplate. The stock does not have grasping grooves, a cartouche or a proof. With a Springfield Research Service letter stating that this rifle is a National Match and that it was sold to Lt. Col. Ch. H. Wilson, N.G. on April 1st, 1927. Includes muzzle and rear sight covers.

ConditionVery fine, 98% of the original dark green parkerized finish remains with some wear on the front sight boss and high edges. The ordnance replacement stock is very fine with scattered minor scratches and dings. Rear sight is milled/filed out/widened. Mechanically excellent.
