Description:

This is a very fine example of a very late WWII Winchester production M1 Garand rifle, termed a "Win-13" rifle. These were the very last Winchester M1 rifles produced in early/mid 1945, and they are an enigma among M1 collectors and are considered very rare and highly desirable by both Winchester and M1 collectors. This term "Win-13" stems from the fact that these receiver were originally produced in early 1943; however, they were set aside and never completed or assembled until the end of production in 1945. The actual term Win-13 is based on the fact that the Winchester company never changed the receiver revision numbers during production, until they finished these in 1945. All the Winchester receivers during production were stamped with heat lot marking of "Win-2" while these late receivers are marked with the last M1 receiver revision of "Win-13". It is estimated that there were only 30,000 actually manufactured and accepted by the Army to fulfill the contract, with the noted serial number range of "1601150-1642000". The remaining M1s were assembled and supposedly sold off as commercial rifles. This rifle has a very late deep green parkerized finish overall with all the late production correct Winchester marked parts. The breech end of the barrel is parkerized the same as the receiver which is correct as Winchester parkerized the barrel and receivers together after fitting. It has the correct WRA marked bolt, with a late unmodified Winchester operating rod with the straight cut on the side marked "D35382 W.R.A.", the correct barrel only has the small circled WP proof on the right side. The barrel is fitted with the original oval middle barrel band with the blued retaining pin still intact and it has the has the late WRA marked trigger group with the large (unmodified pad), and the correct WRA internal parts, to include the milled trigger guard. It has the single bevel follower, "13 " marked bullet guide, milled and punch marked bullet guide, late production punch marked recoil spring guide and a late unmarked operating rod catch. It has the correct open arrow Winchester manufactured rear sight assembly with the locking bar on the right side and the battle range markings on the left elevation knob. It is fitted with the late side base, round top Winchester gas cylinder with the wide front sight, a round top gas cylinder lock and a four slot "O" marked gas plug. It has the correct Winchester walnut stock and handguard set. The stock has the long channel cut in the front with a boxed "WRA/GHD" cartouche followed by the final Cross-Cannon Ordnance proof of the on the left side and single "P" proof in the pistol grip area. The stock has been stamped with the large rack number (67) in the toe area and on the flat of the pistol grip.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of its late dark green parkerized finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear overall and on the edges of the receiver and barrel, with actual finish loss on the right side receiver rail and rear edges of the receiver and trigger guard bow. The stock and handguards area all in fine condition with their nice original oil finish with a matching colors, showing heavier pressure dents and dings on the sides and underside from in proper storage and handling over the years. The cartouches and proofs are clear and distinct. A very nice all original late WWII Winchester Win-13 M1 Garand rifle.
