Description:

The Model 1833 is historically significant as the first percussion firearm adopted by the U.S. Government and also the first U.S. martial arm to employ an underbarrel bayonet that slides into the ramrod channel. 1,028 were manufactured in .58 caliber in 1834 and 6,135 were manufactured in .52 caliber in 1836-1839. This example comes from the final year of production and has been rebored and rifled for use with .58 caliber ammunition. This model is less often found with later period rifling than the Model 1843s. This model was initially primarily used in conflicts with Native Americans in the Arkansas Territory and Florida, and some remained in use during the Civil War. There is a "16" marked brass tag on the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 70% of the original brown lacquer finish, gray-blue case colors on the breech, some minor oxidation, and general mild scratches and dings. The bayonet does retract fully. The stock exhibits heavy sanding overall, and has some chips at the nose and toe, a cracking on the bottom of the stock at the breech, and mild scratches and dents throughout. Mechanically fine other than that the bayonet does not retract fully.
