31 1/4 inch curved blade (measured along the spine) with scroll and U.S. martial etching, "W. HORSTMANN/& SONS/PHILADELPHIA" on the right ricasso, "IRON PROOF" at the base of the spine, and a crowned figure hallmark on the left ricasso. The hilt is gilded brass and has floral and "US" designs on the pierced guard, gold sword knot, and golden wire wrapped sharkskin grip. The scabbard has a blackened body and gilded brass furniture.

Rating Definition:

Fine with traces of original gilt finish mixed with aged patina on the brass, distinct etched patterns along the fine polished blade, a blunted tip with extensive moderate pitting, lighter pitting elsewhere, some minor flaking of the grip, and solid fit. The scabbard is very fine overall with a protective coat of varnish applied overall with some scattered dings.
