Marlin Model 1881 Lever Action Rifle

Manufactured in 1888. The barrel has the Third Style markings ending in "REISSUE NOV. 9. 1880" on the top flat ahead of the rear sight and "40 CAL" followed by a hand marked "60" (referencing .40-60 caliber) at the breech. The left side of the frame is period hand-marked "40-60/NEALS." "40-60" appears again on the right side of the stock wrist and left side of the forearm as well as "60" on top of the barrel. "NEALS" is hand-marked on the stock behind the lower tang. Fitted with German silver blade and elevation adjustable sights.

ConditionFine. The rifle retains 80% bright original high polish blue finish with the balance thinning to a brown mixed with some minor scratches and spotting. Traces of case colors remain in the protected areas. The wood is fine with a deep dent on the forearm, otherwise some minor dings and scratches and most of the finish remaining. Mechanically excellent.
