D) H. Leue & Timpe Hammergun

Of similar form to "A", en suite with "C". The concave rib numbered "4". The garniture contained in a three tier brass bound oak case, the fixed base for two actions, the middle lift out tier for two further actions and the upper lift out tier for four pairs of barrels. Heinrich Leue and Johann Friedrich Timpe established their gunmaking business in Berlin in the 1860s and worked in partnership until around 1876. After the partnership disolved Heinrich Leue went on to become an agent for W.W. Greener and gunmaker to the Prussian royal court in Berlin. Wilhelm I (1797-1888) became King of Prussia on his father's death on 2 January 1861 and was crowned Emperor of Germany on 18 January 1871 following the unification of Germany. He had served in the Prussian army from 1814 and was present at both the battles of Ligny and Waterloo in 1815. He continued to serve in the military and achieved the rank of Field Marshal and was Governor of the Fortress of Mainz. As a second son he was never expected to ascend to the throne but when his elder brother, Frederick William IV, died in 1861 without issue he was crowned Wilhelm I of Prussia. The crowned "V" monogram on the underside of the butt is believed to be that of Princess Victoria (1840-1901), the future Empress of Germany and Queen of Prussia by marriage to Frederick III, Wilhelm's only son. Victoria was the eldest child of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.
