German Panel Scene Engraved H. Leue & Timpe Double Barrel Underlever Hammergun Bearing the Monogram of Prince Heinrich of Prussia

Manufactured in circa 1870 with browned damascus barrels, the breech end of each barrel and the rib inlaid with two gold lines. The raised flat rib signed "H. LEUE & TIMPE HOFBÜCHSENMACHER BERLIN" and with brass bead front sight. Action with carved fences each engraved with a diamond pattern with a central star to each diamond, long upper tang engraved with the crowned monogram "H", and rounded action body engraved with differing game scene vignettes, on the right a running stag and on the left a running boar. Back-action side locks respectively signed "H. LEUE & TIMPE" and "HOFBÜCHSENM. BERLIN" behind the hammers and each engraved with a further differing game scene, that on the right involving a hound and that on the left depicting a fallen stag. Set trigger for each lock housed within a trigger guard with pierced scrolled green horn finger rest and blued push forward underlever. Figured 14 inch stock with raised cheekpiece, checkered grip and permanently attached forearm. Lightly engraved steel butt plate, two iron sling mounts and border and foliate scroll engraving throughout. Prince Heinrich (1862-1929) was the son of the German Emperor and King of Prussia Frederick III and younger brother of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Heinrich served in the German navy and rose to the rank of Grand Admiral.

ConditionVery Good. Barrels with much loss of finish and scattered patches of surface corrosion marking, signature on rib clear. Some discoloration and a dull grey patina to the action, locks and steel mounts, engraving clear and sharp throughout. Stock with numerous minor age related storage and handling marks and bruises, checkering sharp, the right side of the checkered panel with old gouge marks. Barrels loose on action, otherwise mechanically fine.
