Manufactured circa 1870-1880, rotating the Lefaucheux type underlever to its full extent not only slides the barrels forward before tipping them down to activate the extractor and expose the breeches for loading but also cocks both locks. The blued barrels and rib are inlaid with two gold lines and an engraved band of foliage towards the breech. The barrels are constructed with no under rib and the raised concave sighting rib is of unusual form with a metal breech section bearing the fixed rear sight and signed "A. HAETGE HOFBÜCHSENMACHER BERLIN", a short metal tip at the muzzles bearing the white metal bead front sight and the two sections are bridged by a strip of polished hardwood. The action and locks are chiseled in low relief with differing game scenes involving hounds and deer, the scenes are framed by tendrils of foliage which extends to the rotary underlever and forearm cap. The trigger plate is fitted with a set trigger for each lock. The scrolled trigger guard and tip of the underlever are of dark horn, well figured 13 1/2 inch stock with raised cheekpiece, checkered grip and permanently attached forearm. The butt is fitted with an early hard rubber checkered pad and an engraved stud on the underside for the attachment of a sling, the underside of the barrel is fitted with a ring for the forward sling mount. With old handwritten collection tags, one with wax seal.
