An improvement on the Type 30 Arisaka, the Type 35 was developed for issue to the Special Naval Landing Forces of the Imperial Japanese Navy and was the first Arisaka variant to integrate a dust cover. First completed in 1902, the Type 35 started being phased out for the Type 38 sometime around 1905. Blade front and 2,000 yard tangent rear sights, with a solid chrysanthemum and Type nomenclature on the receiver ring, and the Tokyo Arsenal stamp, serial number, and a small "sunwheel" on the rear bridge. The "sunwheel" appears to be the crest of Siam (aka Thailand), suggesting a military contract sale either during the original period of production or after the Type 35 had been phased out of Japanese service. The dust cover is sheet metal construction, with a spring-loaded retention clip and a set of vent holes designed to line up with the ones in the chamber when the cover is opened for firing. The stock is smooth multi-piece construction with sling swivels and a flat buttplate, showing a small Japanese naval arsenal stamp on the underside of the pistol grip.
