Manufactured by FN Herstal of Belgium under military contract from the nation of Venezuela. There were a total of approximately 8,000 of these Venezuelan contract rifles produced in two orders. The top of the receiver is stamped with the "Venezuelan Crest", and the right side of the receiver is marked" "FABRIQUE NATIONALE D' ARMES DE GUERRE-HERSTAL BELGIQUE" followed by serial number, "1668" which is also stamped on the action cover. The left side of the receiver ring has the correct Belgian factory proofs. With a walnut pistol grip stock with a two-piece top handguard and ribbed steel buttplate. The buttstock is unmarked which is correct for a first contract rifle. It retains its original six-slotted flash hider and a ten-shot box magazine.
