Scarce U.S. Army Model 1918A2 Fully Automatic Class III/NFA “SALES SAMPLE” Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR)

This is a scarce later Korean War manufacture Model 1918A2 Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) manufactured by the USA/Royal Typewriter Company circa 1954. These BARs are considered the original Squad Automatic Rifle (SAW) at the platoon and infantry squad level. They played a significant role on the battlefield during WWI, Korea and even into Vietnam. The top of the receiver is marked "BROWNING AUTOMATIC RIFLE,/U.S. CAL. 30 M1918A2/MANF'D BY ROYAL TYPEWRITER COMPANY INC./859855" followed by "INTER AMERICAN/SAC'TO CA". The top of the barrel (behind the front sight) is marked "ROTW/Ordnance Bomb/3-54" indicating manufacture in Feb 1954. The left side of the trigger housing is marked: "ROT/6536470/5/ARMAS STEEL". It is fitted with the late style rear sight graduated from 100-1,500 yards, which is fully adjustable for windage and elevation. It is fitted with a walnut forend and a later black composite stock with the hinged buttplate. With one parkerized magazine and its original bipod.

ConditionVery fine as arsenal refurbished with 98% of the current gray parkerized finish overall with only slight wear on the edges and high spots. The metal does show some light very fine pin-prick type pitting in some areas, obvious from use during the wars. The forend is in excellent condition and the fiberglass buttstock is also in fine condition. NOTE: This weapon is a restricted, National Firearms Act (NFA) Class 3, Fully Automatic Weapon, that is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478. This weapon is currently registered as being "LIMITED TO USE AS A SALES SAMPLE (Pre-86)" and as such can only be purchased by an FFL, with a Class 2 or Class 3 SOT License.
