Description:

This is a very scarce early Pre-WWII German Police Luger manufactured by the Mauser factory. This was the first year that Germany stopped using the secret letter code markings for the year of manufacture on small arms. This fine example is even more rare in that it was one of the early Police issue Mauser Lugers. It is estimated that approximately 200 Police Lugers were produced in 1936 all with this "g" serial number suffix, with the sear safety bar on top of the side plate. The chamber area is stamped "1936", and the front toggle is marked "S/42", the wartime code for the Mauser factory. The right side of the barrel extension has the early double "Eagle/63" Waffenamt proofs. It is numbered in the military fashion with the full serial number (6652) stamped on the major components and the last two digits (52) on the various small parts. The safety and extractor are marked "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" respectively. The grips are checkered walnut. This excellent early Police Luger is accompanied by two, Haenel/Schmeisser marked, type one, chrome plated, Police magazines with aluminum bases that are marked: "1/6652/Mauser proof" and "2/6652/Mauser proof". It is complete with an original 1936 dated Police type black leather Luger holster that is marked: "KERN KLAGER & CIE/1936/BERLIN".

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 95% of the original blue finish with wear on the edges and high spots overall, blue loss on the side plate and muzzle area front frame rails, and a hint of thinning on the lower grips strap. The straw colors are vivid and remain 80% complete. The grips are excellent with nice original distinct checkering on both sides, mixed with some minor handling marks. The holster is very fine with most of the wear confined to the top area of the flap that has worn off to a brown color and the lower section of the magazine pouch, mixed with general scratches and handling marks from use over the years. The stitching is tight, and the markings are clear and distinct. A scarce excellent early 1936 "S/42" Mauser Police rig.
