London Cased Colt Round Barrel Model 1862 Police/Pocket Navy Cartridge Conversion Revolver with British Proofs

These cartridge conversion revolvers were manufactured at the same time as the first Colt Single Action Army revolvers in the early 1870s. While the SAA is easily the most famous Colt revolver today, the percussion and conversion revolvers like this Pocket Navy would have been more readily identifiable as a Colt to most consumers in the 1870s than the new SAA. The left side of the barrel and the cylinder at each chamber have small London proofmarks. It also has a small post front sight, the New York barrel address, standard stagecoach cylinder scene and patent markings, "36 CAL" on the left side of the trigger guard, "998" on the cylinder, "5023" on the loading gate, matching other visible serial numbers, and the matching serial number in the back strap inlet of the grip. The hardwood case has green baize lining, a "Colt's Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Co/14, Pall Mall, S.W./London" label inside the lid, interior compartment with lid, cleaning rod, L-shaped screwdriver, oiler, key, and a cartridge block holding 52 .380 Eley cartridges.

ConditionFine with 60% plus original blue on the barrel, smooth gray on the ejector, 30% original blue on the cylinder, 50% original case colors on the frame and hammer, traces of original silver plating on the grip frame, aged patina on the silver and brass, and gray and brown patina on the faded areas of the steel. There is minimal light oxidation and some scattered light scratches and marks. The grip is very fine with most of the original varnish and has some mild edge wear and a few scattered small dents. Mechanically excellent. The case and accessories are very good with moderate overall wear. Overall a fine London cased and proofed conversion revolver in very good condition.
