Manufactured 1863 and was among the approximately 6,500 revolvers converted from 1862 Police/Pocket Navy revolver parts to 38 rimfire and centerfire cartridge. This example has the 5 1/2 inch round barrel with an ejector. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line New York address, and the left side of the frame is marked with the two-line 1871 and 1872 patent dates. "36 CAL." is on the left trigger guard shoulder. The cylinder is roll engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene and marked "COLTS PATENT/No 391" The complete matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and butt. The wedge is un- numbered and we were unable to remove the barrel to check the cylinder pin number. Fitted with a one piece grip with a relief carved Mexican eagle on the right side. Comes with an unmarked brown leather tooled flap holster.
