The Model 1819 Hall is a very historically significant firearm both in that it was the first military breech loading firearm issued in large numbers anywhere in the world and also the first firearm manufactured with totally interchangeable parts. American arms makers John H. Hall and Simeon North were highly influential in developing mass production. Hall's interchangeable parts system was more significant than the breechloading arms themselves as the ability to re-assemble a fully functional firearm using parts from multiple broken ones or batches of spare parts without further alteration could both save tax payer dollars and ensure the military could maintain readiness and effectiveness in the field. This 1838 dated example has the standard markings and features for the second production type (1826-1838). A "19" marked collection tag is tied to the trigger guard.

Extremely fine with 90% plus original brown lacquer finish and strong original case colors. There are some spots of minor flaking and minor rub wear from operating the mechanisms, but the rifle is nearly as issued. The stock has smooth oiled finish, minor edge wear, a rectangular rough patch on the left side at the edge of the butt, no visible cartouche, and a few mild dents and scrapes. Mechanically excellent. This is a very attractive representative of a historic U.S. martial arm.
