Development of the Peabody rifles and carbines began early in the Civil War but the war ended before they got any government contracts. Many foreign contracts were gained however which led to some of these rifles and carbines seeing action in the Franco-Prussian War. This carbine shows standard markings and features including oval "WC" foreign contract cartouche and a label marked "PEABODY CARBINE" on the stock.

Very fine, retains 85% blue and 80% casehardened finishes with a few light handling marks. The wood is also very fine with a few light handling marks, a label on the right side of the stock, and a visible cartouche. Mechanically excellent.
