Description:

An estimated 122,000 Remington New Model Army revolvers were manufactured in 1863-1875. All but a small amount of those manufactured during the Civil War era were sold under contract with the U.S. Ordnance Department like this one. They were the second most widely issued revolvers during the war and remained in use into the late 19th century Indian Wars. It has standard barrel markings, the "pinched" blade front sight, standard frame groove rear sight, small single letter inspection marks throughout, smooth walnut grips with a "BH" cartouche on the left panel, and matching serial numbers on the barrel, inside of the trigger guard at the heel, left side of the butt, and inside of each grip.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 50% plus original blue finish, most of the subdued original case colors on the hammer, aged patina on the trigger guard, smooth brown patina on the balance, mild cylinder drag line, minor scratches and marks, and some light oxidation. The grips are also fine and have light handling wear, slight chipping at the toe, and a distinct cartouche. Mechanically excellent. This is certainly one of the better New Model Army revolvers we have seen that actually shows signs of having likely actually been used in the Civil War.
