Description:

Approximately 8,000 Model 1864 or "Second Mode" carbines were purchased by the U.S. Government on contract with the Joslyn Fire Arms Company. They were among the better weapons issued to the Union cavalry. It has the standard markings and features, including matching serial numbers, but has no visible government markings.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus with 40% original blue finish, traces of case colors, some minor oxidation and pitting, and gray and brown patina on the balance. The stock is very good and has light scratches and dings throughout, a chip below the saddle ring bar, and some attractive figure in the toe section. Mechanically excellent.
