Factory Engraved New Haven Arms Henry Deluxe Lever Action Rifle

Manufactured by the New Haven Arms Co. in 1866. The receiver, upper tang and buttplate heel feature a New Haven Arms factory engraving with large scrolls and floral sprays on a punch dot background and double line scalloped borders. Very similar factory engraving on Henry rifles is illustrated on pages 22 and 23 of "Winchester Engraving" by R.L. Wilson. This style of engraving is believed to have been executed by Samuel Hodgson who did most factory engraving for the New Haven Arms Company. The barrel has a German silver blade front sight, a period replacement elevation adjustable rear sight in which a dovetail has been added, partially covering the two-line patent date/address marking and the serial number "12617" at the breech. The original dovetail has had a filler installed. The serial number is repeated on the left side of the lower tang, stock inlet ("617") and buttplate. There is a hole on the top tang for a now absent sight and two drilled and tapped holes on the left side plate. A four piece steel cleaning rod is included. The left side of the barrel and buttstock have a factory loop for a sling hook and sling swivel respectively. Mounted on a highly figured straight grip stock.

ConditionVery good. The barrel and magazine have a smooth brown-gray patina. The brass has an attractive patina. The stock is very good with a hairline crack near the upper tang and a number of dings and scratches. Mechanically good.
