Winchester First Model Hotchkiss Bolt Action Saddle Ring Carbine

Manufactured in 1882-1883. One of only 812 first model carbines made, 500 of which went to the U.S. Army. The First Model Hotchkiss rifles and carbines are easily identified by the turning magazine cutoff behind the bolt handle on the right side of the stock. This example is a civilian model given it has no inspection marks or cartouches. The front sight is a pinned blade, and the rear sight is a folding ladder graduated 1-4 on the base and 5-10 on the ladder. The left side of the receiver is marked with the three-line Winchester and Hotchkiss patent information and address and has the serial number on the top left edge of the receiver. Mounted with a smooth military style straight grip stock featuring a saddle ring mounted on the left side.

ConditionVery good plus with 20% original blue finish, concentrated on the receiver, with the balance a smooth brown-grey patina. The wood is fine with scattered minor-moderate dings and divots. Mechanically fine.
