The U.S. Navy purchased 4,300 of Whitney Navy revolvers during the Civil War, but roughly 33,000 of 1st and 2nd Model Navy revolvers were manufactured by Whitney in the late 1850s to early 1860s in a variety of variations. This 4th Type has the matching serial number and small letter marks on the bottom of the barrel, the cylinder pin, rear of the cylinder, and back of the grips. The face of the cylinder has "P/GMC" (Commander George M. Colvocoresses) and an anchor is stamped behind the "E. WHITNEY/N. HAVEN" marking on the top of the barrel at the breech. Also included is an unmarked open toe holster.

Rating Definition:

Good with mostly an artificial smooth gray and brown patina, mostly crisp markings other than the faint cylinder scene, minor marks and scratches, limited minor oxidation/pitting, small chips at the toe and heel of the grip along with small dings and scratches. Mechanically fine. The holster is fair and has crackling and flaking.
