Rare Factory Engraved Winchester Model 11S.L. Semi-Automatic Shotgun Two Barrel Set

Manufactured in 1912. Pinch blade front sight on the matte top barrel with standard knurled grasping area, standard markings, Winchester "WP" proofs on the barrel and receiver at the breech, and cylinder choke. The receiver is engraved with game bird and dog scenes of ducks on the right and bird dogs stalking quail on the left. The balance is covered in fine leafy scroll with geometric accents and contrasting punch dot backgrounds. The top of the receiver is inscribed "E. Bartlett Hayward" in fancy script. Nicely figured checkered semi-beavertail forearm and pistol grip stock with ventilated Hawkins recoil pad. The second barrel/action assembly is numbered to match with matching engraving and inscription, 2 3/4 inch chamber, and full choke. Stock measurements are: drop at comb 1 3/4 inches; drop at heel 2 1/2 inches; length of pull 14 inches. The 1913 Harvard Alumni Directory does list an E. Barlett Hayward as Class of 1906 and being employed by the Bartlett-Hayward Co. of Baltimore, Maryland. The Bartlett-Hayward Company started as a stove maker before moving into foundries, machinery, and engineering, later becoming known for elaborate architectural ironwork including work at the United States Capitol and South Carolina State House.

ConditionExcellent. 97% plus original blue finish remains with some light wear and spotting around the muzzle, sharp engraving and markings, and some small scattered handling marks. The wood is very fine with a visible hairline crack at the bottom rear of the forearm, well-defined checkering, and small dings throughout. Mechanically excellent. Extra barrel assembly is fine with some muzzle wear and spotting, sharp engraving, some light edge wear at the rear, and a small crack at the bottom rear of the forearm.
