This is one of the approximately 2,800 scopes developed and manufactured c.1940 for the U.S. Marine Corps, to be installed on 1903 National Match rifles by USMC/Navy armorers (a combination also known as the "USMC 1941 Sniper"). The scopes themselves were kept in inventory after World War II, seeing re-issue as late as Vietnam. It is marked "J. Unertl/USMC-SNIPER/2416" on the main body tube ahead of "8", with a rail-guided sliding aluminum front ring, and an adjustable Unertl marked rear ring. Included with the scope is a green paint finished bakelite field case, fitted with a green canvas lid retainer and belt loop, and a spring loaded interior.

Very fine. The exterior shows 85% plus blue with some light wear and a small amount of brown spotting and patina. Optics are excellent. The front lens cap is absent. The case is excellent.
