Description:

This is an absolutely stunning example of a late production Danish Madsen M47 bolt action rifle with its correct, matching condition bayonet and scabbard. Interestingly this example has a large 1 1/2 inch round, blued steel stock disc, similar to a presentation disc, on the left side of the stock that has the Columbian National Seal/Crest in the center that reads: "COLUMBIA/FUERZAS ARMADAS", around the edge. These rifles were manufactured under contract by DISA (Dansk Industri Syndicat), originally Compagnie Madsen A/S, in 1947-49, with approximately 5,000 produced in total. These rifles were quite innovative for the time as they have dual rear locking lugs, a slightly shorter bolt throw and lower bolt lift, an integral barrel mounted muzzle compensator, a fully adjustable military tangent rear sight with peep aperture, and a hooded front sight. They used a fixed five round magazine, and all of them were chambered in 30-06. These were exceptionally well-designed and robust bolt action rifles with very innovative features. Denmark intended to market them as a new and modern rifle, hoping to attract sales from some of the newly established European countries intending to upgrade their old WWI and WWII Mauser rifles. Unfortunately with the huge glut of small arms on the world market after WWII, these sales never materialized and almost all of these rifles were sold to Columbia in the 1950s. The top of the receiver is marked "FUEREZA ARMADAS DE COLUMBIA", and the side is marked "MADSEN M.G/A" followed by serial number and .30 Cal. The stock and handguard are European walnut with finger grooves on the sides and a rubber recoil pad/buttplate. As noted, this rifle is complete with a matching condition original bayonet and scabbard with a canvas type scabbard frog. The metal components all have a dark black painted type finish overall. They saw limited use by Columbia, with many imported in the 1960s by Interarms.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus, as issued condition with 99% of the original black painted finish overall with old dried and soft grease all around the edges of the metal and stock area. The screw heads are untouched with the action never having been removed from the stock. The action markings and metal stock disc markings are all clear and sharp. The stock and handguard are almost in the same like new condition except for a couple of very minor handling marks on the sides. The bayonet and metal scabbard are also both in the same like new condition with bright polished blade and 99% of the black painted metal finish overall. An exceptional, very difficult rifle to find in this condition!
