Description:

This is a fine example of a desirable early pre-war production H. Krieghoff "S" code German Luger manufactured in limited quantities for the Luftwaffe. This series of Krieghoff Lugers is stamped with the secret wartime "S" code/date marking over the chamber denoting it was manufactured in 1936.There were approximately 4200 "S" code Krieghoff Lugers manufactured for the Luftwaffe in 1936 with approximatively 2000 in this serial number block. The pistol is an early variation that has the C-2 die marking on the front toggle with the "H (dagger) K" with the word "SUHL" aligned underneath. The full serial number (734) is marked on the front frame, the left side of the receiver, and breech block. The last two digits of the serial number (34) are stamped on the side plate, rear toggle assembly, trigger, take down lever and side plate. The right side of the barrel extension is marked with the large "Eagle/2" Luftwaffe acceptance mark followed by the Luftwaffe test proof and small "Eagle/2" proof. The underside of the barrel is marked with only the bore diameter ".882" over an "Eagle/2" proof. The left side of the breech block is marked with the test proof and an "Eagle/2" acceptance proof. Interestingly the top of the toggle train is correctly matching numbered (34) , while the underside is stamped with an assembly number "7" on the front and rear section of the toggle assembly. The grips are the Krieghoff coarse checkered walnut that are not numbered or proofed but have the correct early, flat top type checkering. It come with an early Mauser magazine that has an unmarked, nickel plated magazine body with an aluminum base that is stamped "3164/k/+/eagle 63".

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine with 85% plus of the original blue finish overall, the complete barrel extension having the correct purplish/red tint and a darker blue on the barrel. 50% of the original straw colors remain. The grip straps do show some small areas of blue loss/oxidation on the front strap with the only blue loss on the rear strap being the top of the stock lug. The side plate does show some blue loss on the edges and hump, with a couple small dents directly in the middle of the plate. The right side frame rail and the right front side of the barrel and front sight base both show some areas of light pitting/oxidation. The grips are very fine with nice, distinct, original checkering on both sides. The markings are clear and distinct, and the numbers are matching except the magazine, as noted. These early S-Code Kreighoffs are seldom found in this exceptionally fine condition!
