Engraved, Gold Finished Colt First Generation Single Action Army Revolver

Manufactured in 1912, this revolver features a fine full-gold finish, extensive subsequently added custom scroll and punch dot engraving, and is stamped "G. LILLIE" on the right side of the front strap. No documentation or provenance info was provided, and it may be a coincidence, but the name is obviously commemorating that of Gordon William Lillie, aka Pawnee Bill. Born in Illinois and raised in Kansas, Lillie set out into the Oklahoma frontier as a young man, eventually signing on with Buffalo Bill's Wild West with a crew of Pawnee, serving as performer and translator, earning the moniker "Pawnee Bill" in the process (we in no way want to infer that this is authentic!) After a few years he struck out on his own, before joining forces with Cody again forming the "Two Bill's" wild west show. In 1912, Lillie would be near the end of his Wild West career, eventually retiring to his ranch in Pawnee, Oklahoma. The revolver features fixed sights, with a two-line address and "45 COLT" on the barrel and the two-line, three-date patent markings on the frame next to the Rampant Colt. The grip frame is numbered to match, with "19" scribed on the interior of the smooth pearl grips. The surface shows 75% plus coverage of engraving, mostly punch-dot backed scrollwork.

ConditionFine as custom embellished, with 80% of the gold finish, with some flaking and wear exposing a mix of bright and aged brown steel, along with some mild handling marks. The grips are fair, with some broad chips and scuffs. Mechanically excellent.
