Description:

Manufactured during the early 20th Century and attributed to Texas craftsman, Tom Johnson Jr. They are unmarked, as is typical of Johnson's work and display the "boot and garter-less" "gal-leg" shanks often associated with his work. There is a small "EP" mark on the exterior medial arm of the heel band. They feature 5-point star rowels, "gal-leg" shanks, engraved silver and bronze single mountings, and straight heel bands with swinging buttons. The unmarked straps are period basket weave pattern stamped leather. Heel band width: 1" Shanks: 3" Rowel diameter: 2" Heel opening: 3 1/4"

Rating Definition:

Very good overall, showing a mottled grey patina that is worn bright on some edges and areas of the interior of the heel band. The light wear and handling marks are consistent with use. The leather straps are fine with some small patches of surface flaking, some light age cracking, and crisp stamping overall.
