Rare Early Production Finely Engraved Winchester Model 1866 Lever Action Saddle Ring Flat Side Carbine

Manufactured in 1866 as a first model with the desirable Henry patent barrel address ahead of the rear sight, serial number on the left side of the lower tang, flat sided receiver and two upper tang screws. The receiver has a period style floral scroll engraving which incorporates wolf heads on both sides and top. Additional engraving is found on the cartridge elevator and both receiver tangs. The carbine is fitted with a front sight integral to the front barrel band, two leaf flip rear sight, saddle ring on the left side of the receiver and brass buttplate with compartment (cleaning rod not included). Mounted on a standard smooth carbine forearm and buttstock. The stock inlet is numbered to the gun.

ConditionVery good plus. The barrel and magazine retain 30% original blue finish with the balance a mottled gray patina. The brass has an attractive patina. The engraving is crisp. The wood is fine with a number of dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
