Documented Special Order Winchester Deluxe First Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle

The accompanying Cody Firearms Record Office confirmation lists this rifle with a 26 inch octagon barrel, set trigger, XXX checkered stock, peep and Beach sights and casehardened finish when received in the warehouse on August 28, 1875, and shipped the same day. The records also listed a return date of June 27, 1887, which was likely for a replacement barrel. Combination Beach and elevation adjustable sights on a barrel with the two-line address/patent dates marking and "44 WCF" (caliber designation not marked until the 150000-160000 serial number range). The cartridge elevator is correctly unmarked. The first model receiver has the distinctive dust cover held in place by grooved guides on either side of the top of the receiver, raised checkered oval finger grip on top of the dust cover and the lever latch with the visible screw threads. The tang peep sight is graduated from 0-50 on the left side. The highly figured forearm and straight grips stock are checkered. The buttstock has a trapdoor buttplate (cleaning rod not included). The left side of the lower tang is marked "XXX 115," and the stock inlet is marked "5447."

ConditionFine. 60% original blue finish remains on the barrel and 40% original blue finish remains on the magazine tube with the balance a smooth brown patina. 30% original case colors remain on the frame, hammer and lever. The upper tang is cracked at the screw. The wood is very good with minor dings and scratches and blemishes in the checkering. Mechanically excellent.
