Description:

The only visible marking on the rifle is "H GIBBS" on the top barrel flat behind the rear sight. There were two Henry Gibbs Gunsmiths in Lancaster, Pa., a father and son. Father made flintlock and percussion rifles, circa 1812 to 1843 and son 1843 to 1880. German silver blade front and fixed iron rear sights, bolster style percussion conversion and double set triggers. There are simple engraved designs on the rear half of the top barrel flat. German silver wedge escutcheons and silver plated brass mountings. Light floral scroll engraving on the lock and hammer, wooden ramrod and mounted with a full straight grip maple stock with checkered wrist, decorative, engraved patch box, buttplate toe extension, cheekpiece and silver initial rectangle on the bottom.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel has a mix of silver gray and brown patina with some minor spotting. Most of the silver remains on the plated components with some of the brass showing, and the German silver components have an attractive aged patina. The stock is also very good showing some moderate wear, scattered dings and dents, and crisp checkering. The action is fine.
