William Bodenheimer (senior and junior) worked in Lancaster, Ohio, and are known to have built quality rifles for general field use as well as rifle matches. This rifle was built for the latter and has a lock from Howell, Gano & Co., a hardware retailer in Cincinnati, Ohio. The barrel has a hooded post front sight, buckhorn rear sight, and "W. BODENHEIMER" on top between the rear sight and breech. The engraved barrel tang has two holes for peep sight mounting. The lock has floral and bird scene engraving and is marked "H. GANO & Co." It has double set triggers, a pewter forend cap, German silver wedge and thumb escutcheons, scroll engraved brass trigger guard, smooth stock, and brass buttplate. The overall construction is consistent with the Bodenheimers' work. It lacks the scrolled cheekpieces sometimes seen on their rifles.
