Contemporary P.B. Signed, Engraved, and Carved Flintlock American Long Rifle

This rifle has previously been attributed to Peter Berry of the Dauphin County School, but it is more accurately an antiqued modern gun inspired by original Berry rifles built using some antique parts such as the barrel and likely some of the furniture. The stock and lock are modern, and there are differences in the stock carving from what is expected on Berry rifles. It has a dot pattern on the muzzle, a brass blade front sight, "P.B." signature on top behind the notch rear sight, "1802" on the side plate (Berry died in 1796), unmarked lock, mix of engraved and plain brass furniture, traces of an inscription on the patch box door, raised relief and incised carving along the stock, including particularly ornate designs on the left side of the butt.

ConditionGood as extensively restored/custom made with artificial dark brown patina on the lock and barrel including light surface pitting and oxidation, some aged patina forming on the brass, and minor marks and scratches. The modern replacement stock is very good other than the partially repair cracks at the nose of the lock and rear lock screw. Mechanically functional but could use tuning.
